What are futures bets?
Futures bets are wagers on outcomes that will be decided in the future — like which team will win the NCAA Championship. Your money is locked until the event concludes.
Implied Probability
Convert odds to probability: +400 odds = 100/(400+100) = 20% implied chance. The total implied probability across all teams exceeds 100% — that excess is the sportsbook's edge (vig).
Value Betting
Look for teams whose true probability of winning exceeds the implied probability. If you think a team has a 15% chance but the odds imply 8%, that's a value bet.
Hedge Strategy
If your futures bet reaches the Final Four, you can hedge by betting on their opponent each game to guarantee profit regardless of outcome.
